AppleInsider | iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader - 0 views

" iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader By Daniel Eran Dilger Published: 04:27 PM EST (01:27 PM PST) A new market research report notes that mobile devices now amount to almost 7 percent of all US web traffic, with Apple's iOS representing a 58.5 percent slice of all mobile traffic and the iPad now accounting for more traffic than iPhones. The growth of mobile devices has claimed a 6.8 percent chunk of US web traffic from conventional PCs, according to a new report by comScore. Of that segment, about two thirds of the traffic is from mobile phones and a remaining third is being generated by tablet users. The group notes that Apple's iPad now accounts for 97.2 percent of all tablet-originating web traffic, driving home the reality that competitors have not yet released a significant tablet competitor. Among iOS users, iPad now accounts for 46.8 percent of all traffic generated, making it now a more prolific tool than the iPhone for mobile web use, which represents 42.6 percent of iOS traffic. An increasingly important market segment The firm also outlined why the growth of tablet traffic is significant, noting that almost half of tablet owners have completed purchases using their tablet. "Tablet owners exhibited significant use of their devices throughout the entire online shopping process," comScore reported, "from doing the initial planning, conducting product and store research, making price comparisons, to finally transacting. In the past month, more than half of tablet owners looked up product or price information for a specific store (56 percent) and read customer ratings and reviews while on a tablet (54 percent)." The group added, "the incremental reach through mobile and connected devices should not be underestimated," pointing out that, "in August 2011, the additional mobile and connected device audience for Pandora accounted for more than half of their total cross-platform audience." "Steel Media has worn many hats in the iOS world. They are an iOS ad publisher, publish the website pocketgamer.co.uk, and AppSpy video reviews. They also run The Free App Alliance, the iPhone Alliance and the iPhone and iPad Quality Indexes - meta-review sites dedicated to iOS apps. Who better then, to put out an all iOS magazine than this group? And, they have done just that with Swipe, an HTML 5 built, interactive magazine that will help you decide which apps and accessories you want or even need."

Chrome for iOS review: syncing is great, but still just an iOS WebKit wrapper | Ars Tec... - 0 views

"A version of Google's Chrome browser has finally come to iOS devices. The company made its announcement on Thursday as part of its annual Google I/O conference in San Francisco, with Chrome becoming available on the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch users just hours after the announcement. But while Chrome fans will be pleased with the app's ability to sync tabs between their computers, Android devices, and now iOS devices, they will likely also be disappointed in the fact that Chrome's back-end is exactly the same as Mobile Safari's. That's right: Chrome for iOS is based on the iOS WebKit, and as such, performance won't be much different than what Apple already offers-in fact, it's slower."

Apple's Podcasts App Delivers a Solid Listening Experience | iPad.AppStorm - 3 views

"n iOS 6, Apple decided it was time to remove the podcasts function of the Music app and replace it with a standalone app, available for free in the App Store. Properly titled Podcasts, this app released in June of this year, but has been under much criticism for its half-baked design, lag and lack of functionality. Since then, there have been three updates to the app, the last of which arriving the day of iOS 6's release. All the same, is this app even worth the trouble Apple has gone to thus far?"

This iOS App Blows Your Mind In Four Dimensions [Review] | Cult of Mac - 1 views

  •
"Be forewarned, then: The Fourth Dimension is an app which will mess with your head. Deliberately. Even though the aim is education and expansion of knowledge, it will still mess with your head. You will emerge from the experience only fractionally the wiser, and quite a lot more confused than you were at the beginning. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. The aim of the app is to explain four spatial dimensions to creatures like us who live in a stubbornly three dimensional universe."
